• Scottish molest: ICC seeks 3 student representatives

  • Kolkata: The Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) convened its first meeting on Friday to investigate the molestation case registered with the Scottish Church College. Following UGC norms, the committee decided to restructure itself by including three student representatives.

A second-year student had filed a molestation complaint on Wednesday against physical education teacher, Samir Roy. During Friday's initial ICC meeting, the committee determined the need for restructuring with student representation. The committee requested nominations for three positions by Tuesday — one each from undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programmes — to proceed with the probe.

Students accompanied the complainant to submit demands to the college authorities, including strict action against Roy, and adequate security for the complainant.

Sreshtargha Pal, a student, said, "There were numerous complaints against this person, but the authorities allowed him to move freely on campus."

Principal Madhumanjari Mandal assured that the college responded swiftly and the investigation was ongoing. The college has suspended Roy, and he has been removed from the quarters where he used to stay.
