Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Friday granted bail to Sujay Krishna Bhadra, who is in custody as an accused in an ED case in connection with the teacher recruitment scam. Whether Bhadra will be able to walk out of jail, however, depends on the order of a subordinate court that directed his production in a CBI case on Dec 9.
Justice Suvra Ghosh allowed Bhadra's bail petition on strict conditions, directing him to deposit his passport, submit his cellphone number to the HC and to not change the number.
CBI has moved the subordinate court making a prayer to allow the accused in custody as "shown arrested" on the ground that the agency wants to interrogate Bhadra in a separate case.
A special PMLA court had directed the court production of Bhadra on two occasions in November. Jail authorities had submitted his medical reports instead.
Bhadra was arrested by ED for "non-cooperation with the investigation" in May 2023. CBI had questioned him ahead of the arrest.
