Hawkers to return to space beneath Kalighat skywalk

123 Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation on Friday has asked hawkers, who were relocated to Jatin Das Park from Kali Temple Road to facilitate the construction of Kalighat skywalk, to return to their original place within a month.
The skywalk is ready for inauguration.
"The construction of the skywalk is complete. Alongside, we have re-laid Kali Temple Road and the adjacent pavements. Hawkers have been asked to return to their original space. Now we are waiting for a nod for the inauguration of the skywalk," said a civic official. According to another official, after the newly constructed market accommodates 176 hawkers from JD Park, the process for inauguration will start.
According to him, the skywalk was ready for inauguration a week before Diwali. However, KMC officials associated with the project didn't get the nod for inauguration.
CM Mamata Banerjee earlier visited Kalighat Temple in Apr with mayor Firhad Hakim and asked the civic brass to wrap up construction as fast as they could.
