In the complaint, signed by five TMC MLAs within the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency and one MLA from Karimpur, Moitra’s former constituency, the lawmakers alleged that Mahua Moitra has, in a sustained manner, kept the Assembly representatives in the dark while undertaking party programmes in her area and indulged in “anti-social elements” from the region that have dented the party’s image, especially among the minority voters of the district.
Those who signed the complaint letter include Karimpur MLA Bimalendu Sinha Roy, Chapra MLA Rukbanur Rahman, Nakashipara MLA Kallol Khan, Palashipara MLA Manik Bhattacharya (recently granted bail in school-job scam), Krishnanagar South MLA Ujjwal Biswas and Kaliganj MLA Nasiruddin Ahmed (Lal).
The six MLAs have alleged that ever since Moitra was re-elected to Lok Sabha in June, she has been “ignoring” her MLAs while visiting their respective constituencies and “moving around with her own coterie of leaders”.
The MP, recently reshuffled three block presidents of the TMC, 16 zone presidents and 116 booth presidents in her district “without taking the respective MLAs into confidence”.
Moitra is creating ‘instability’ in the Nadia district by ‘fostering’ the Opposition groups and has not been seen in any anti-BJP programme in the district, the letter mentioned.
Additionally, the MLAs have alleged that Moitra has been promising several block leaders that they will have new candidates in the 2026 Assembly elections, replacing the current MLAs.
“…it is becoming increasingly difficult for us to undertake party activities with her. She is disrupting party functions in the region and promoting factionalism,” a legislator, on condition of anonymity said. “She is moving around with known anti-socials and indulging criminals and extortionists from the region… Our party’s image has taken a severe beating on her account.”
Apart from the CM, the complaint letter has also been submitted to the Trinamool state president Subrata Bakshi, urging disciplinary action against Moitra. As per TMC sources, complaints against Mahua were verbally made to the party leadership after the Assembly’s winter session began. It was then that the ‘angry’ MLAs were asked to submit a written complaint to party chief.
The letter does not have the signatures of Tehatta MLA Tapas Saha and Krishnanagar North MLA Mukul Roy.
Meanwhile, Moitra, who is now in Delhi attending the Parliament’s winter session, refused to comment on the matter. “I have no comment to offer on this district-level rubbish,” she said. — WITH PTI
