State government employees will enjoy a 12-day holiday during Durga Puja and Kojagari Lakshmi Puja. The break begins on Friday September 26 with leaves granted for Chaturthi and Panchami (Saturday, September 27). September 28 is a Sunday, while Saptami, Ashtami, Nabami, and Dashami (all government holidays) will be observed on September 29, 30, October 1, and October 2, respectively. October 2 also marks Gandhi Jayanti.
Additional leaves have been allocated for October 3 and 4, while October 5 is a Sunday. The holiday stretch continues with Lakshmi Puja on October 6 and an extra leave on October 7, bringing the total Durga Puja holiday period to 12 days.
After a brief return to work from October 8 to 17, employees will have an 11-day holiday encompassing Kali Puja, Bhatri Dwitiya, and Chhath Puja. The Kali Puja leave commences on October 18, which is a Saturday, although the main celebration is on October 20 (Monday).
Extra holidays have been announced for October 21 and 22 for Kali Puja, followed by Bhatri Dwitiya on October 23 and an additional day off on October 24. While October 25 and 26 are weekends, the break concludes with leaves for Chhath Puja on October 27 and 28, resulting in an uninterrupted stretch of 11 days from October 18 to October 28.
However, the generous holiday calendar comes with a slight drawback, as seven holidays in 2025 coincide with Sundays. These include Swami Vivekananda’s Birthday (January 12), Republic Day (January 26), Saraswati Puja (February 2), Ram Navami (April 6), Muharram (July 6), Mahalaya (September 21) and Maha Shashthi of Durga Puja (September 28).
