  • 12 Kolkata: Three weeks since the assassination attempt on Kasba councillor Sushanta Ghosh, police recovered the second firearm that his assailants were carrying on Nov 15 evening. Sources indicated the firearm was discovered after interrogating Lakshman Sharma, alias Chotu, who was arrested last week from Bihar's Vaishali district.

Authorities are investigating whether additional firearms were intended for use in this case.

According to Kolkata Police sources, the weapon was recovered from a derelict area in Kasba's Bosepukur on Saturday evening. Apart from a 9mm pistol, cops also found two magazines, and 12 rounds of ammunition during a 30-minute search operation.

On Nov 15, an assailant attempted to shoot Sushanta outside his residence. He arrived on a scooter, but the firearm malfunctioned, sparing Sushanta's life. While the scooter rider fled, Sushanta and his associates managed to apprehend the shooter, Yuvraj Kumar. Subsequently, the primary conspirator, Afroz Khan alias Gulzar, Ahmed Ali, a taxi driver, and one of the principal plotters, Fulbabu and Ali, were apprehended. Lakshman was the final arrest in this case. Police confirmed that during the incident, Lakshman was operating the scooter with Yuvraj as pillion rider.
