‘Molested’ S Kol woman gets post-9pm summons from PS

12 Kolkata: Two weeks after lodging a complaint of molestation and assault at the hands of a group of locals after protesting against public drinking, a couple at Sree Colony in Netaji Nagar was summoned to the police station after 9 pm to face questioning in a counter-complaint filed by the assailants.
According to the couple, the trouble started late on Nov 23 when they protested against a group of neighbours, who allegedly were screaming and creating a ruckus outside their house. "This group of young boys often drink in the open outside our house and create a ruckus. On Nov 23, they were screaming and abusing each other. My husband requested them not to do so as my mother-in-law, a stage-4 pancreatic cancer patient, was exceptionally ill that day. At this, the boys — all in the age range of 20 and 22 — kicked and slapped my husband. When I came to his rescue, they pushed me and tried to touch my private parts," said the woman, who works with a private firm.
The woman said they lodged a complaint at Netaji Nagar police station the next day and an FIR was initiated. "The cops made us write the letter six times before they finally accepted it. They came to the neighbourhood the following day, but since then there was no response from their end. We almost forgot about it until a policeman delivered a summons to our home on Saturday — when we were at work — asking us to face the investigation in a counter-complaint the attackers filed," she said. "I couldn't understand why they called us to the police station after 9 pm on a Sunday? We will follow the law though and will meet the cops," she added.
TOI also spoke to youths, including the two FIR-named boys and their family members, who in turn blamed the couple for abusing and beating them up in a drunken state. "They cause trouble every day. On Nov 23, we received news of one of our relatives falling sick and were discussing it when the couple barged in and abused us. When we asked them to go away, the man assaulted the boys. He even attacked our home the next day and broke our window," said the sister of one of the FIR-named boys.
The other boy TOI spoke to said they had lodged a GD, but only after learning that the couple filed an FIR, they too filed an FIR on Nov 25. Both the boys, however, stressed that cops haven't questioned them yet.
Officers of Netaji Nagar police station said they called the couple to the police station for the sake of investigation, as a complaint was lodged against them as well. Asked why they hadn't called the couple all these days and why the other party wasn't questioned, cops refused to share any more details.
