In a first, Press Club Kolkata, established in 1945, has decided to grant regular membership to photojournalists along with voting rights. This move comes after a mass voting session among members on Saturday, where photojournalists won by a narrow margin of 5 votes.
Press Club secretary Kingshuk Pramanik said the process of absorbing photojournalists as regular members will commence soon. The decision was taken during their annual general meeting where a proposal was put forth to allow photojournalists to become general members with voting rights. The voting results showed 186 members in favour and 181 against.
