  • NEW DELHI: At least three were killed and several others sustained injuries in an explosion whilst allegedly producing illegal crude bombs in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, according to police reports on Monday.

The incident occurred late Sunday night in Khoyertala village within Sagarpara gram panchayat.

Police identified the deceased as Sakirul Sarkar (32), Mamon Mollah (30) and Mustakin Shiekh (28). The injured parties fled from the scene.

"The explosion took place at the house of Mamon where they were making crude bombs. The roof of the house was blown away in the blast. We are investigating the matter," the police officer said.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the three deceased individuals had previously been linked to phensedyl smuggling activities.

Local residents attempted to transport Mamon Mollah and Sakirul Sarkar to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital, but both succumbed to their injuries during transit, he added.

Authorities deployed a substantial police force to the area, whilst the bomb squad conducted investigations at the explosion site.
