123 Kolkata: Calcutta University will seek a detailed list of unauthorised boarders from all the hostel boarders. The list will be requested to be submitted before Dec 16, the date of the next anti-ragging committee meeting.
Two residents of Carmichael hostel had called the helpline number of the national anti-ragging helpline last Friday. The issue was triggered by a screening of the controversial movie ‘Ram Ke Nam'. CU called an anti-ragging committee meeting on Monday to discuss the matter. Sources said the committee members expressed their concern over authorised boarders. The committee decided to speak to both parties—the complainant and the accused. In the next meeting, the committee will discuss how to restrict authorised boarders based on the list requested from all the hostel boarders across 16 hostels.
A few weeks back, the board of residence of Calcutta University inspected Carmichael hostel to probe a complaint of illegal residents based on a letter received by a resident that mentioned the illegal formation of a mess committee, keeping legitimate boarders in the dark.
The issue started long back in July when a second-year differently-abled student of this hostel made a complaint of being assaulted. After this, the university issued certain measures to curb the entry of outsiders into the hostel.
