12 Kolkata: A 28-year-old woman, an accountant employed with a private firm, died soon after she started feeling unwell on a moving govt bus on Monday morning. The incident was reported from Behala Janakalyan, close to Behala Chowrasta, around 10.45 am.
Cops said a green channel was created for the bus to reach the hospital directly. However, it was too late. They are awaiting the postmortem report to ascertain the exact cause of death. The woman's parents told cops that their daughter had been suffering from a pancreatic problem and might have died after suffering a heart attack.
According to police, Susmita Chanda, resident of Jadavpur's Ibrahimpur Road, boarded the S-31 bus from Jadavpur 8B bus stand. She was headed towards Thakurpukur and planned to change buses at Behala Chowrasta.
"After the bus crossed Muchipara near Siriti, the woman complained of uneasiness. Worried, the passengers asked the driver to speed up. By the time the bus reached Janakalyan, she seemed to have lost consciousness. The driver drove straight to a traffic sergeant. This sergeant then asked control to create a short green channel from Chowrasta to Behala Market and then led the bus directly to Vidyasagar Hospital.
After arriving there, the woman was declared dead. Cops established the victim's identity and informed her parents.
"All procedures were followed. She apparently had some pancreatic ailments and died due to a heart attack," said DC (Southwest-Behala) Rahul De.
