123 Kolkata: Nuruddin Halder, a panchayat member of Gazipur in Kulpi, was stabbed to death by unknown miscreants on Sunday night. The incident occurred around 11pm when the 57-year-old was returning home.
Police are conducting a probe, though there were no arrests. Rahim Gazi, the Gazipur panchayat chief's husband and regional president, rushed to the spot following the incident.
While a section of TMC functionaries claimed the murder was a result of intra-party feud, local MLA Jogaranjan Halder and Mathurapur MP Bapi Halder alleged that the murder was the result of a conspiracy. They refuted claims of any party feud behind the incident.
