• TMC MLAs meet CM on Moitra, ‘told no decision now’

  • 123 Kolkata: Five Trinamool Congress MLAs from Krishnanagar, who had written to the CM against MP Mahua Moitra and demanded her removal from the post of party district president, met Mamata Banerjee at the assembly on Monday but were told that no decision would be taken immediately.

Sources said Banerjee gave a patient hearing to the MLAs but said no decision on Moitra would be taken now and the issue may be discussed in the party's districtwise meetings.

Rukbanur Rahman, the party's Krishnanagar district chairman and Chapra MLA, confirmed they had met the CM.

Last week, the MLAs in their letter complained that Moitra was unavailable on most occasions — be it on the phone or at her district office — and she was mostly in Delhi. They further said she had changed 178 booth presidents, 17 anchal presidents as well as block presidents without consulting them, leading to instability in the party and disturbance in the district.

The signatories included Rahman, Kallol Khan from Nakashipara, Ujjwal Biswas from Krishnanagar South, Nasiruddin Ahmed from Kaliganj and Bimalendu Singha Roy from Karimpur. Manik Bhattacharya from Palashipara, who recently got bail in a job recruitment corruption case, had also signed.
