  • 12 Kolkata: On an average, men receive three times more spam calls than women. This was revealed by a study conducted by Bharti Airtel. The study was based on findings from Airtel's spam detection network over the last two-and-a-half months. The AI-generated network was introduced in Oct this year.

Men constitute around 60% of the telecom operator's customer base. According to trends, 76% of all spam calls have been aimed at male customers, while only 24% target females.

Across age demographies, customers in the age bracket of 36-60 received 48% of all spam calls, while those in the 26-35 age bracket were the second-most targeted, accounting for 26% of spam calls. Only about 8% spam calls landed in the handsets of senior citizens.

Airtel flagged a staggering 8 billion spam calls and 800 million spam texts since Oct. Airtel has alerted close to 252 million unique customers to these suspicious calls and observed a 12% decline in the number of customers answering them. Around 6% of all calls on its network were identified as spam calls, while 2% of all texts were identified as spam.

According to the data, Delhi customers received the maximum number of spam calls, followed by customers in Andhra Pradesh and Western UP. Delhi is also where the maximum number of spam calls originated, followed by Mumbai and Karnataka. In terms of SMS, the maximum number originated in Gujarat, followed by Kolkata and UP, and the maximum number of customers targeted were from Mumbai, Chennai and Gujarat.

Also, volume of spam calls diminished by around 40% on Sundays.
