Jalpaiguri decorator gets death for murdering wife

Jalpaiguri: A Jalpaiguri trial court on Tuesday ordered capital punishment for a decorator, who suffocated his wife to death with a pillow and hid her body in their neighbour's septic tank in April 2019.
The Jalpaiguri district third court sentenced Gopal Das to death after examining 18 witnesses.
The crime occurred on April 19 when Gopal visited his wife's family home in Bhaktinagar.
The police investigation established that Gopal, harbouring suspicions about his wife Lata Das, brought materials, including ropes and bricks, to the location. After suffocating Lata with a pillow, he tied her feet with ropes, attached bricks to her body and disposed it of in a neighbour's septic tank.
Police arrested Gopal after the body was recovered and booked him under IPC sections 302 and 201.
Judge Biplab Roy delivered the capital punishment order, assistant public prosecutor Barendranath Roy said.
