• KMRC stalls E-W rake exchange plan
    Times of India | 12 December 2024
  • Kolkata: KMRC has decided not to proceed with the decision to exchange rakes being used in the East-West Metro's Esplanade-Howrah Maidan section to facilitate work in the incomplete Esplanade-Sealdah stretch.

The agency had planned to suspend services on both the Esplanade-Howrah Maidan and Sealdah-Sector V sections on Dec 14 and 15 to allow the passage of eight empty rakes to and from the Salt Lake depot. However, contractors ITD ITD-Cementation informed KMRC they are working on fitting steel liners to strengthen rings of the east-bound tunnel. For this, tracks at certain stretches were dismantled, and it was impossible to relay them by this weekend.

The state-of-the-art BEML-make rakes used on East-West Metro corridor need regular — at least weekly — upkeep. tnn
