12 Kolkata: A class-IX student from New Barrackpore, who was suffering from memory loss and went missing a couple of years ago, was found in a Prayagraj asylum. He had been arrested by UP police. Abhijit Sarkar was reunited with his family thanks to the efforts of a member of a group of Bengali tourists and devotees from Sodepur who visited Varanasi. During a charity event at the asylum, the tourist interacted with the boy and took the initiative to contact Ham radio enthusiasts, whose efforts facilitated the reunion between Sarkar and his family on Thursday.
According to local sources, Sarkar went missing in Nov 2022 after he left home for coaching class. "We looked for him in every possible place but didn't find him. We have finally got him back with the help of a kind-hearted tourist from Sodepur and the Ham radio operators," said Deepa, the boy's mother.
According to Ham radio operators, the boy was found wandering in Varanasi and was taken into custody by Prayagraj police. "Following a court order, he was admitted to the Pandepur Mental Hospital in Varanasi," said Ambarish Nag Biswas, secretary of West Bengal Ham Radio Club (WBRC).
WBRC member Barun Biswas from New Barrackpore was able to trace the boy's family in Bilkanda after further investigations.
