  • 12 Kolkata: CM Mamata Banerjee has said the Jagannath Temple in Digha, which will be inaugurated on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya on April 30 next year, will become an icon of not just Bengal but the entire world.

This entailed that everyone took the ownership, and thus the responsibility, to make the world aware of this structure, she said, speaking to reporters on her way back to Kolkata from Digha.

"What we are constructing is not just for Bengal. It will become an icon of the entire world. It will carry the legacy of Bengal for thousands of years to come. Hence, to make this even more beautiful, we need to take up even more responsibility and greater liability. This has increased our responsibility," she said.

Later in the day, the CM also inaugurated Shailen Manna Sarani in Howrah.

"Today, I inaugurated the newly renovated Shailen Manna Road in Howrah for the convenience of the general public. Additionally, I paid tributes to the esteemed Shailen Manna by offering flowers to his portrait. In the coming days, this road will be filled with Sufal Bangla, stalls from various self-help groups, play areas for children and various beautification projects. The Government of West Bengal is always dedicated to the welfare of people," she wrote on Facebook.
