Bengal to verify a/c details of beneficiaries for DBT

Kolkata: The Bengal govt has decided to verify the account details of beneficiaries before any transaction in case of direct bank transfers (DBTs).
Additional chief secretary in the finance department, Prabhat Kumar Mishra, issued the directive and also cautioned against typographical mistakes.
The directive said that IFS Code should be validated as per the latest RBI IFSC list. "Special care should be taken for matching the benefit scheme with the beneficiary getting the benefit. Validation should be there in the portal/system so that the same bank account number cannot be used against different names of beneficiaries," it said.
Moreover, the bank account of the beneficiary should be in a branch within Bengal's jurisdiction and the bank account details should be approved by a Group-A officer. Restrictions have also been imposed on the rectification of failed transactions.
"The failed transaction should preferably be auto-cancelled, and the allotment of the same amount should be rolled back. The failed transaction should thereafter be reprocessed with a fresh transaction," the directive added.
All beneficiaries' details should be verified through NPCIL, a subsidiary of RBI. Only verified bank accounts matching with IFSC will be considered for further processing for DBT.
Beneficiaries will receive SMS notifications if their application is approved or rejected under any DBT scheme. They will also be informed about the payment status. Even in the case of failed transactions, necessary instructions for correcting their bank details will be sent to the beneficiaries by SMS.
