Kolkata: Work has started on a single-storey steel structure on the ground of Kolkata Mounted Police Paddock and Riding School, where RVNL will temporarily shift BC Roy Market to make way for the Esplanade station of Joka-Esplanade Metro. The foundation casting has started.
TOI reported on Nov 16 that the Delhi-based SS Constructions was awarded the Rs 19-crore contract to build the temporary BC Roy Market and the structure had to be finished in eight months. The 528 traders will be shifted there for three years.
"Most of the Purple Line's Esplanade station will come up on the current location of the market. So shifting the market was crucial," a railway official said. The steel structure will house 528 stalls, with water supply, drainage lines, fire-fighting system and other facilities.
