  • 12 Kolkata: CPM lifted the suspension on suspended neta Tanmoy Bhattacharya on Saturday after the party's internal inquiry committee said it did not find enough evidence to substantiate the charges of molestation against him.

CPM's North 24 Parganas district secretary Mrinal Chakraborty called Bhattacharya to convey the message.

Bhattacharya said: "I was clear with myself because I did nothing wrong. I always believed that the party would eventually clear my name."

Bhattacharya was suspended by CPM on Oct 27 following allegations of his inappropriate behaviour with a journalist.

The journalist had accused the 66-year-old of touching her inappropriately and sitting on her lap without her consent when she visited his Baranagar home for an interview. She narrated her ordeal on Facebook and lodged an FIR at Baranagar PS.

Bhattacharya, who represented the Dum Dum (North) assembly seat between 2016 and 2021, claimed that he was being made victim of a conspiracy.

CPM took note of the journalist's complaint, suspended Bhattacharya, and referred the case to the party's internal complaints committee.

Bhattacharya had deposed before the panel, comprising CPM veterans Anju Kar, Shyamali Pradhan and Sumit Dey, on Nov 9. Dey said they questioned Bhattacharya based on allegations by the woman.
