  • Suri: As many as 1,500 locals have been given govt jobs as compensation for land acquisition for the Deucha Pachami coal project in Birbhum, the district administration informed on Saturday. Most of them have been appointed as group-level employees and junior constables.

Birbhum DM Bidhan Ray said, "Eligible people have got govt jobs following the terms and conditions fixed up by the state administration. We are processing some more applications." Ray said that besides employment, the land donors received benefits within the compensation framework. "The locals are now convinced about the advantages of the project and how it will benefit them. State govt will consider suggestions laid by the stakeholders living in the proposed coal project area," he added.

WBPDCL will operate the project as a captive coal mine.
