12 Kolkata: A 78-year-old man, Bidhan Chakraborty, died of burn injuries that he sustained while trying to light an incense stick on Dec 11 in the Bisnu Pally area under Regent Park police station.
The septuagenarian died of his injuries on Friday at MR Bangur Hospital.
"Chakraborty was sitting on a chair and trying to light the incense stick by bending down when his clothes accidentally caught fire. His wife was present but could not help him as she is bedridden. As a result, he was severely injured in front of her eyes. Chakraborty somehow managed to call his son, Anupam Chakraborty, who was not in the house. After he returned, Anupam, with the help of neighbours, admitted him to MR Bangur Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries at this hospital," said DC (South Suburban-Jadavpur) Bidisha Kalita.
