  • Kolkata: Police on Sunday recovered the murder weapon, the only missing link in the ‘severed head' mystery, which the city police solved promptly. Police on Saturday arrested Atiqur Laskar, a house painter from Laskarpara in Diamond Harbour, in connection with the gruesome murder of Khateja Bibi, whose severed head was found in Tollygunge's Graham Road area. Laskar, the victim's brother-in-law, was remanded to 14 days in police custody by the Alipore Court on Sunday.

The murder weapon, a critical missing link in the case, was recovered from a private property in Regent Colony based on Laskar's disclosure. Investigators indicated that the crime may have been a result of passion.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) cracked the case after analysing CCTV footage within a 2-km radius and tracking individuals close to Khateja. Laskar was detained on Friday night in Diamond Harbour and revealed during interrogation that he disposed of the victim's head in Tollygunge before travelling by train to Diamond Harbour.

The remaining body parts were found in plastic bags behind an unoccupied apartment in Regent Colony. Police found no link between the murder and the Graham Road apartment complex, despite sniffer dogs leading investigators there. The chilling case left residents shocked, with police continuing to investigate the motive and circumstances surrounding the murder.
