  • Kolkata: The Joint Platform of Doctors (JPD) wrote to the Kolkata Police CP on Sunday seeking permission to construct a dharna mancha at Dorina crossing in Esplanade where it wants to hold a sit-in demonstration on the RG Kar issue from Dec 17 to 26.

The umbrella body of senior doctors' organisations, during its protest on Rani Rashmani Avenue on Saturday, issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the CBI to file a supplementary charge sheet. It also issued another ultimatum to the govt to issue an NOC for the completion of the charge sheet against former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh in the corruption case against him and former Tala PS OC Abhijit Mondal.

"If the CBI and the state fail to do so, we will launch an indefinite agitation," said surgery professor Manas Gumta. If the CP does not give permission for a platform at Dorina crossing, JPD plans to move court, seeking to protest from the site where junior doctors sat on hunger strike in Oct.

The letter said JPD will ensure safety of participants and the public during this event.
