  • Kolkata: The personal assistant (CA) of a divisional DCP of Kolkata Police was suspended following allegations of extorting money in the name of another IPS officer. According to sources at Lalbazar, the divisional commissioner reportedly suspended him on the orders of KP top brass.

The allegation is that the cop, holding the rank of a sub-inspector, requested a large sum of money from a private company in Phoolbagan on behalf of the IPS officer, who is not linked with the Eastern Suburban Division. However, it is not yet known which IPS officer in the Kolkata Police the CA made this request for.

When contacted for a reaction, the concerned DCP did not respond to calls or messages. A source from the Kolkata Police stated that upon hearing the amount requested by the CA over the phone, the private company directly approached the KP top brass.

Lalbazar ordered the DC to suspend the CA. The police top brass remained tight-lipped on the issue but said a final decision will be taken after the completion of the departmental probe against the officer. "All legal processes will be followed, and the cop suspended by us will be allowed to produce evidence in his favour," said a senior cop at Lalbazar.
