Illegal constructions in East Kolkata Wetlands being demolished following Calcutta high court orders

KOLKATA: The Sonarpur block administration on Tuesday demolished illegal constructions in the East Kolkata Wetlands. A verdict regarding the demolition of these illegal structures was issued in 2017.
Again, in 2023, the Calcutta high court directed the district magistrate of South 24 Parganas to demolish the illegal constructions. Accordingly, the demolition work began on Tuesday morning.
Sonarpur BDO Shinjini Sengupta, the IC of Narendrapur police station, and a large police force were present. According to administrative sources, all illegal constructions will be gradually demolished.
