  • Kolkata: A resident of Malda has been arrested in the Delhi-NCR region by Uttar Pradesh Police for allegedly threatening to kill UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath. Bengal Police sources said the accused, Sheikh Ataul of Ratua, worked as a rickshaw-puller in NCR.

UP Police also recovered a pistol, a knife and some objectionable pictures from his possession. They said Ataul had made a minute-long video about the current situation in Bangladesh on social media, where he threatened to kill the UP CM. An FIR has been registered against him at the Noida Sector 39 police station.

Bengal police, however, warned people against spreading fake news. "Legal action will follow if fake news is peddled about this incident," warned a top cop on Wednesday.

"We checked his antecedents and found no links with Bangladesh at all. His family has roots in Jharkhand and had settled here a long time ago," said a senior cop at Bhawani Bhawan.
