Kolkata: The movement of heavy and medium goods vehicles will be restricted within the city limits between 6am and 10pm, a fresh notification from Kolkata Traffic Police states. This is a continuation of the policy adopted in Aug last year to ensure the safety of school children.
"There was pressure to impose the restriction at least an hour later. But the safety of students was paramount for us," said a traffic cop. There will be exceptions for the port area.
Goods vehicles carrying essential items such as LPG, oxygen and perishable goodswill be allowed to ply from 10pm to 8am and again from noon to 4pm on all days within the city. Light goods vehicles will be allowed to move within the city between noon and 4 pm and again from 10 pm to 6 am.
