  • 12 Kolkata: The BSF's Southern Frontier has said that their personnel have been instructed to maintain strict vigilance while monitoring provocative statements emerging from Bangladesh. They are under strict orders to act only upon direction from superior authorities before taking "any extreme step," said the BSF brass.

BSF said they have also increased vigilance and even taken recourse to technology to stop infiltration at the borders following fresh upheavals in Bangladesh.

BSF South Bengal Frontier's IG, Maninder Singh Pawar, announced enhanced security measures along the India-Bangladesh border during a briefing on Wednesday. The measures include the deployment of additional personnel and advanced surveillance equipment, particularly in unfenced areas.

"Modern equipment has been deployed for border surveillance, especially during night patrols," Pawar said, adding, "We are operating under direct instructions from the home ministry." The heightened security comes amid growing concerns about potential cross-border infiltration.

The BSF assigned additional responsibilities to battalions managing different border sections. Working in coordination with state police, the force also intensified monitoring of immigration activities to prevent the use of fraudulent passports.

‘We established a robust system to detect fake documentation and unauthorized SIM cards," said Pawar adding, "The current level of surveillance makes it virtually impossible for miscreants to operate."

The Union home ministry is actively overseeing these security enhancements, providing specialized equipment and strategic guidance. Officials believe these measures will effectively deter any attempted border violations during the current period of unrest in Bangladesh.

The BSF continues to monitor the situation closely while maintaining heightened alert across all border outposts.
