Kolkata: A 27-year-old resident of Panchanantala died after he lost control of his bike and rammed into a roadside junction box that caused severe head injuries. The biker was not wearing a helmet.
The incident was reported around 2.30 am on Thursday on the Rashbehari connector of EM Bypass, near Kasba's Talbagan crossing. The victim was rushed to a private hospital off EM Bypass, where he was declared dead. Cops said, prima facie, it seems the biker lost balance — either after suddenly slamming on the brakes or turning at a high speed.
"There has been a sharp rise in two-wheeler accidents that corresponds with the exponential growth in two-wheeler sales, particularly those without gears and smaller wheels. The maximum number of people involved in these accidents are those who don't have adequate experience in riding two-wheelers," said an officer at Lalbazar.
Most accidents were reported from Dum Dum 30A bus stand, Chittaranjan Colony, Bandipur Road in Bansdroni, Dakshindari Road near Ultadanga, or Tangra 3rd Lane.
