  • 12 Kolkata: A post-wedding photoshoot near Babughat turned into nightmare for newlyweds and their photographer after their car was broken into and equipment, including a Canon camera, two expensive lenses, three batteries, and the three memory chips containing all the couple's wedding photos, were stolen. . The total loss was estimated to be Rs 2.5 lakh.

The wedding of the bride from Bankura and groom from Tangra took place on Dec 15. "After the wedding in Bankura, we arrived in Kolkata. The reception was to follow this shoot," said the photographer, Subhas Chandra Dutta (43) from Tangra.

The incident was reported around 1 pm on Tuesday. The couple's car — parked parallel to the Kendriya Vidyalaya School (Fort William) boundary — was damaged during the theft.

Cops have registered a case and are scanning CCTV footage. "Given that the theft took place at an important location, we are probing the case seriously," said DC (port) Harikrishna Pai.

Dutta said he accompanied the couple to Prinsep Ghat at 8.30 am. The shoot began sometime later. "After the first round of the shoot, we returned to the car to change outfits around 11.10 am, and everything was intact. After the second round, we returned and found the rear left window broken and the items missing. We saw a sergeant nearby and informed him. He said he had seen that the window was broken when he came on duty. He advised us to approach cops and helped us to lodge the case," said Dutta.

Cops said they believe an old gang, which earlier targeted two Chhattisgarh residents in a similar manner, might be involved.
