Kolkata: A growing number of hawkers in and around Kalighat temple is a hindrance to the beautification of the historic structure, conceded mayor Firhad Hakim on Friday.
Replying to a query by TMC councillor Prabir Mukherjee on the civic plans for the restoration of a road that leads to the temple from gate number 1, Hakim said the beautification project was progressing well, except for the fact that some hawkers were unnecessarily crowding some roads leading to the temple.
Some hawkers, who have encroached upon portions of the Kali temple road also need to be relocated to facilitate the inauguration of the Kalighat skywalk project.
