• All but 4 Blue Line ops till Dakshineswar from Mon
    Times of India | 21 December 2024
  • Kolkata: Of the 292 daily services on the North-South Metro corridor, 288 will run up to Dakshineswar from Monday. While the number of daily services to the terminal station on the city's northern periphery will increase by 116 from the current 172, the gap between two trains on the entire 31km will increase from six minutes to seven.

A new service will be introduced from Noapara to New Garia at 6.50am. Earlier, the day's first train from Dakshineswar would leave at 7am and the last train at 9.28pm. The first and last trains from Dakshineswar will now depart at 6.50am and 9.33pm. "Barring four, all Blue Line services will terminate at Dakshineswar instead of Dum Dum from Monday," Metro Railway announced on Friday, adding this was an experimental arrangement. "Metro services will operate at seven-minute intervals. Trains departing from Kavi Subhash or New Garia at 8.27pm, 8.48pm, 9.12pm and 9.40pm will terminate at Dum Dum and not Dakshineswar."

Services were added to Dakshineswar following passengers' demand ever since the Blue Line's 4km extension in Feb 2021. The Dakshineswar-Noapara section has become a crucial link for commuters from the northern suburbs, and Howrah and Hooghly districts, who avail of Eastern Railway's suburban trains to reach Dakshineswar and then reach the city centre by metro. Yet, this section received only 172 services (Up and Down).
