12 Dibrugarh: A 42-year-old construction worker from Bengal died on Saturday after a steel structure at the under-construction Selek-Dhunaguri bridge project in Majuli collapsed.
The deceased Ashok Singh sustained fatal injuries after the structure fell on him while he was collecting tools under the bridge with his two colleagues. Singh was wearing proper safety gear, including a helmet. He was rushed to Pitambardev District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. His two co-workers escaped unharmed.
Singh's death marks the second fatal accident at the construction site in eight months. In April, another worker died from electrocution.
The Selek-Dhunaguri bridge, part of the Asom Mala initiative, aims to connect Majuli with Lakhimpur across the Brahmaputra.
