• IMD issues yellow alert for rain in Kolkata for tomorrow

  • Kolkata woke up to a foggy and rainy Saturday morning as predicted, with further rain expected across South Bengal in the day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has, meanwhile, issued a yellow alert for Kolkata for Sunday, December 22.

    The IMD has forecast light rain and dense fog for Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas. East and West Medinipur districts and Jhargram are also likely to receive light showers.

    In Kolkata, a minimum temperature of 16.93 °C and a maximum of 22.39 °C is expected throughout the day. The relative humidity stands at 55 percent, accompanied by a wind speed of 55 km/h.

    According to the Alipore Division of Meteorological Department, the recent rainfall is due to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which has already resulted in light rain across various South Bengal districts since Friday morning. Fog will continue to prevail in the districts of North Bengal and South Bengal this weekend.

    Visibility will drop below 200 meters. It may drop below 50 meters in some places.

    Kolkata‘s temperature on Sunday is expected to range from a minimum of 15.51°C to a maximum of 27.79°C, with humidity levels dropping to around 40 percent.
