• ‘Min temp may not dip much till Dec 25’

  • 123 Kolkata: The sun broke through the clouds on Sunday after a day of drizzles and gloomy weather, even as the minimum temperature slid three degrees to 16.8°C. With the clouds disappearing, the maximum temperature, too, soared to 24.6°C from 21°C on Saturday.

While the minimum could drop marginally on Monday, it won't get very chilly until at least Christmas, said the Met office.

The maximum temperature could rise to 26°C on Monday.

"We expect another western disturbance to move into the region, which will prevent a temperature slide till Christmas. On Dec 25, the maximum temperature could drop to around 24°C, but the minimum will be around 16°C-17°C. The minimum, however, could start dropping from Dec 26 once the impact of the WD wanes. But unlike Saturday, this WD may not trigger rain," said Regional Meteorological Centre weather scientist Sourish Bandyopadhyay.

The interaction of a trough created by the western disturbance and easterly winds from the low-pressure system led to clouds and light rain between Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

While the western disturbance moved in from west to east, the easterly winds flowed in from the opposite direction, carrying in moisture and helping the formation of clouds.
