  • 123 Darjeeling: The country's only museum dedicated to Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das — Step Aside — opened its gates to tourists in Darjeeling after ten months following a thorough renovation. Deshbandhu breathed his last in Darjeeling on June 16, 1925.

Das's house in Darjeeling, close to Chowrasta, was made into a museum . Das's bed and rare photographs, including one during Mahatma Gandhi's only visit to Darjeeling in 1922, are still housed in the two-storied building.

Darjeeling SDO Richard Lepcha said the villa had become dilapidated over the past few years and received a complete facelift. "The north Bengal development department sanctioned Rs 29 lakh for this. We welcome tourists to visit the place and learn more about Chittaranjan and his relation with Darjeeling. The villa has undergone a thorough renovation with wooden floorings and a fresh coat of paint. Lights have been repaired, new records have been framed and added," said Lepcha.
