• CISCE to charge uniform board exam fees from ’26
    Times of India | 24 December 2024
  • 12 Kolkata: CISCE on Monday announced the uniformity of local examination fees and made it clear that schools could not charge anything beyond it. This system will be implemented from 2026. In a notice that CISCE issued on Monday, it said the revised exam fees would be Rs 4,350 for ICSE and Rs 5,450 for ISC.

Since 2017, the council had been charging Rs 1,500 for printing, distribution and evaluation of exam materials, excluding the local expenses for conducting exams. From 2026, the process will be streamlined, ensuring uniformity across all affiliated schools, and CISCE will cover all exam expenses, including remuneration to exam functionaries and transportation costs. The notice, signed by chief executive and secretary Joseph Emmanuel, reads, "This fee will include all local expenses, and schools will no longer be permitted to collect additional fees for the conduct of exams."

The Heritage School Principal Seema Sapru, who served as the exam convenor for years, welcomed the decision. "I am happy that the responsibility has gone from the convener to the council, and now they will do everything required for the exams. I'm sure everybody will accept it happily."

Principals of major CISCE schools also welcomed the decision, stating that there was "disparity in charging local fees", which created a lot of confusion among students. Rishi Aurobindo Memorial Academy principal Bobby Baxter said, "This decision benefits our students, parents and the education fraternity. This reflects on our commitment to provide a fair and supportive environment for students." Another school principal said, " Standardising exam fees for ICSE and ISC will make the process transparent."
