Political leaders of West Bengal became vocal after a video of Bangladesh went viral where a veteran “Muktijoddha” was allegedly heckled, and forced to put a garland of shoes around his neck.

In the video, which has not been independently verified by The Indian Express, 78-year-old veteran freedom fighter Abdul Hai Kanu was also allegedly threatened to leave the area.

Kanu is a resident of Ludiara village of Batista union in Chauddagram of Comilla district in Bangladesh. The video went viral on social media on Sunday night. The alleged incident reportedly took place in front of a primary school.

BJP leader Shankar Ghosh said, after seeing the video, “I became spellbound. We don’t know how people can do this with the freedom fighters of the country. General people are helpless right now in Bangladesh.”

On the other hand, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said, “We are strongly condemning this inhuman act. But our question is, what is the Indian government doing? Why are they maintaining silence after such repeated incidents?”

Congress leader Adhir Chowdhury said, “Bangladesh people are not communal. A section of people is doing such things, which is not acceptable.”
