• Two more trap cages set to capture tigress

  • 12 Purulia/Jhargram: Odisha tigress Zeenat stayed put in the same forest in Purulia's Bandwan on Wednesday, the fourth day in a row.

    A day after it killed a few goats that had entered the forest, officials initiated the process of compensating villagers. According to sources, up to Rs 20,000 is likely to be paid for every lost goat. The tigress killed four goats, wounded five and one went missing.

    The forest department placed two more trap cages with bait at different locations, taking the total number of cages to five.

    A nearby village has been separated from the forest through nylon net fencing. The area is also being scanned with the help of live feeds being generated by smart cameras with night vision technology.

    The tigress brought from Maharashtra's Tadoba to Similipal left Odisha on Dec 8 night to enter Jharkhand. It kept walking and entered Bengal on Dec 20 morning at Belpahari and then, moved to Purulia.
