Kolkata: The BSF plans to increase its presence along the India-Bangladesh border in three south Bengal districts — North 24 Parganas, Nadia and Murshidabad — with an increased focus on the unfenced stretches, said director-general Daljit Singh Chaudhary on Tuesday.
The BSF top brass is also considering bringing back some of its troops from Manipur to South Bengal. BSF have decided to focus on the borders of Nadia, Malda, and Murshidabad. According to sources, intelligence in the border-adjacent villages is also being strengthened. BSF has mentioned that efforts are being made to erect fences where there are none. "Our patrolling has increased there. CCTV cameras are installed, and floodlights are being used at night. On one side of our border is the BSF, and on the other side is the BGB," said an officer.
Chaudhuri on Tuesday held a meeting with the officials of the South Bengal Frontier, where he expressed his concerns. Increased patrolling has been ordered as infiltrators often hide in the villages of border areas, said sources.
