  • 123 Purulia/Jhargram: Two more carcasses of goats have been found in the hilly forest of Purulia's Bandwan on Thursday where the Odisha tigress, Zeenat, stayed put for the fifth straight day. BNS 163 has been enforced in the area to prohibit congregation of people. Hulla parties, too, have been deployed to look for the tigress.

Four more tranquillisation teams from the Sundarbans, Bankura and Midnapore have joined the existing two teams from Odisha.

Although a drone camera was deployed to locate her, she has not been sighted. Smart cameras have been installed for surveillance.Five trap cages with bait have been positioned.

A tranquillisation team has also been stationed near a water body. The forest department is issuing warnings for the locals via loudspeakers. Forest officials are also ensuring that no villager releases goats into the forest. A protective net has been erected to prevent the tigress from entering the village. DFO Purabi Mahat said the tigress was in the vicinity, and if she emerges in search of food or water, efforts would be made to capture her. Thereafter, attempts would be made to safely transport the tigress to Odisha, she added. The tigress had strayed out of Odisha's Similipal National Park about two weeks back.
