3 arrested from MLA Hostel for 5-lakh extortion bid

Kolkata: Three youth from Hooghly were arrested from inside the MLA Hostel for reportedly threatening the Kalna Municipality chairman, Ananda Dutta, and trying to extort Rs 5 lakh from him, using the name of Trinamool national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
"The three persons were arrested while trying to extort money from the Kalna Municipality chairman. The guest room (Room 417), from where they were arrested, was booked by BJP MLA Nikhil Ranjan Dey of Cooch Behar," claimed a Trinamool functionary. "Junedul Haque Chowdhury, Shubhadip Mallik and Sheikh Taslim, convinced the complainant by showing forged papers, committing extortion and cheating by impersonation and forgery," said JCP (crime and traffic) Rupesh kumar.
BJP MLA Dey's number could not be reached but BJP MLA Sukumar Roy said, "The keys are not kept with the one booking rooms but at the front office. If unauthorized persons tried to enter his room, they took the keys from the front office. The MLA Hostel is managed by the state."
