Kolkata: The Kolkata Traffic Police, along with Lalbazar, have instructed all 26 traffic guards to crack down on people, who have been pasting a misleading ‘KP'—which can be wrongly interpreted as ‘Kolkata Police'—on their two-wheelers to dodge prosecution for flouting rules. To ensure no one can use the logo for mischief, joint CP (HQ) Meeraj Khalid said all cops using two-wheelers should write ‘Kolkata Police'.
The norm has to be implemented by Thursday. DC (traffic) Yeilwad Shrikant Jagannathrao ordered the crackdown on bikers misusing the ‘KP' logo.
"Stopped for road rule violations, many pointed at the ‘KP' logo," said an officer. "Some would admit the ‘KP' written on their bikes meant something else—a short form of ‘Kidderpore' or initials of names."
Lalbazar said they would launch a drive to book their own men for flouting rules. Sergeants said the move would make traffic discipline easier.
