  • 123 Suri: Overpowered by passion, Bapan Badyakar from Serenda village in the Mohammadbazar police station area in Suri ripped away the heart-shaped sign from the ‘I love Suri' installation put up by the civic body there. All for the sake of his beloved wife. Bapan, who was tracked down by cops for causing damage to public property, was enticed by the red glowing heart ever since he first spotted it. Since then, he had desired to present it to his wife. Thus, he decided to steal it on Monday night.

The man had managed to pry the heart-shaped glow sign open. But while he was transporting it to his house on his bike, the sign broke. Shattered, he left it by the road.

The broken glow sign was discovered in the morning. Municipality chairman Ujjwal Chatterjee was incensed. This was the third such glow sign to be damaged. The previous two installations were vandalised. The ‘I love Suri'' sign near the circuit house had turned into a popular selfie spot for locals.

Civic officials filed a police complaint, and the cops got cracking. On Wednesday afternoon, Siuri police apprehended Bapan from his house, and he promptly admitted to the act. "I stole the love sign to gift it to my wife," he said. Chatterjee visited the police station on Wednesday night, where he learned Bapan's motive. The act was illegal, but his intention wasn't bad. He then gave Bapan a bouquet of red roses to present to his wife. Bapan did so with teary eyes and promised he would refrain from such misadventures in the future.
