  • The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday submitted a supplementary chargesheet in the school jobs case against former education minister Partha Chatterjee and two other accused in the case, Ayan Sheel and Santu Gangopadhyay.

The central agency submitted the document at the city sessions court.

Meanwhile, the process of framing charges against a total of 54 people, including Chatterjee, in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) case related to primary school recruitment is ongoing, officials said..

Chatterjee’s counsel Biplob Goswami had filed a discharge application and on Friday, argued in court on why the former minister should be exempted from the case.
Goswami argued that according to the Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR), the place of occurrence of the crime is the office of the West Bengal Primary Education department in Salt Lake and the accused were named as the office-bearers and one Ranjan, pointing out that Chatterjee’s name was not mentioned in the ECIR.

He also submitted, “The investigating officer claimed that he had received a letter from Arpita Mukherjee, one of the accused who is in ED custody now, claiming that all the seized money belonged to the former education minister. This was a typed letter with no running signature.”

Goswami told the court that the letter “could have been typed by anyone to frame the former minister.” Till date, a total of 11 people have moved court seeking exemption from the ED case.

Although Chatterjee was granted bail by the Supreme Court in the ED case, the Calcutta High Court rejected his bail plea in the case being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
