  • 12 Kolkata: As New Year's Eve approaches, Kolkata is buzzing with excitement, gearing up to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new one in style. Bars, pubs and eateries are pulling out all the stops with festive decorations, specially curated menus, and thrilling entertainment, promising an unforgettable New Year's Eve for party-goers.

From pulsating DJ nights to dazzling fireworks, the energy across the city is set to soar. At By The Lake in Eco Park, guests can look forward to dance performances, live music and a scrumptious dinner. At the NYE party in Aquatica, a spectacular fireworks display is set to wow visitors.

Elitify at PC Chandra Gardens promises a glamorous experience with cabana and butler services, along with unlimited food, drinks and more. Many venues are extending their celebrations well past midnight. "We've lined up several exciting attractions for our guests, including fire juggling and a shower of confetti," said a manager at Refinery 091 in Sector V. "Many have already booked slots for our New Year's Eve party."

Restaurants have lined up special New Year's Eve menus. Songhai in central Kolkata will offer ‘Chicken 2025', a specially curated tandoor dish, and ‘Cosmopolitan 2025', a vodka-based cocktail to usher in the new year. "More lights and decorations on Park Street and more places being decked up are pulling more people out onto the streets," said Sudesh Poddar, owner of Songhai, Manthan and MS Bar & Lounge, all of which will stay open till 1 am on Jan 1. The establishments have also stepped security to avoid any untoward incident. "We will screen visitors through our CCTV cameras and with the help of our staff. Those who seem drunk will be asked to stop drinking and will also be told not to drive afterwards," Poddar said.

Chapter 2 in south Kolkata will offer Christmas specials, like turkey and duck roast. "The idea is to bring about the festive feel through food, and it will also help reduce the table-turnaround time as footfall is expected to rise exponentially. Our live band will play from lunch till we shut at 2 am on Jan 1," said owner and co-founder Shiladitya Chaudhury.

Cafe Mezzuna, Mainland China and Riyasat have lined up special New Year's Eve dishes. While Mezzuna will serve baked salmon, roast turkey and Australian lamb chops among others, Riyasat will have gosht nihari and taftan. Mainland China will serve turkey kung pao and duck meat Penang curry. "We expect a higher footfall at our outlets, which will be open past midnight," said Anjan Chatterjee, founder of Speciality Restaurants that owns the outlets. "There will be additional security arrangements at some outlets."

The Hotel & Restaurants Association of Eastern India (HRAEI) has circulated 10,000 WhatsApp messages among its member-restaurants and customers, urging the outlets to put up ‘Don't drink & drive, plan a safe ride home' posters at prominent places.

Mocambo and Peter Cat on Park Street, which are expecting a big rush, are gearing up to quicken the table-turnaround time and reduce waiting time. Both had a waiting time of over an hour on Christmas evening. "We have enough extra staff to ensure food is served in the quickest possible time," said owner Nitin Kothari.
