• 22 CAPF guards, mandatory frisking: Suvendu’s security cover beefed up

  • Kolkata: Centre and Bengal govt have stepped up state leader of the opposition Suvendu Adhikari's security cover. It will be now mandatory that Adhikari always travels in bulletproof cars, does not step out of his car at unscheduled stops, all visitors approaching him are frisked and all his public meetings have a sanitized D zone. The additional measures will remain in effect till June 2025 or till the threat assessment of Adhikari is revised.

The new rules also mandate that no less than 22 CAPF personnel will cover Adhikari's convoy or when he is in public. The security step up for Adhikari — already a Z-level protectee — comes after some intelligence inputs which put him at renewed security risk due to his strong reactions to the situation in Bangladesh. Adhikari already gets a bulletproof vehicle, round-the-clock CAPF cover for proximate security and state police are responsible for his peripheral security.

Adhikari is the only Bengal BJP neta to get Centre's Z security. Beyond Bengal, Adhikari is a Y-category protectee with a lesser security detail.

According to sources, SPs and police commissioners have been alerted about the revamped security arrangements for Adhikari. Sources said the state was coordinating with Centre on Adhikari's movements within Bengal.

Centre has asked state police to ensure proper frisking of persons coming in close proximity to Adhikari while he is on district tours. These arrangements will also include woman security guards.Adhikari has been asked to keep safe distance from all visitors, an official said. The new rules also mandate that when Adhikari is going to any party office or home of a party worker, the spot is properly sanitised.
