A wolf was beaten to death by locals in the Budbud area of Paschim Bardhaman, forest officials said on Friday.
According to the forest department sources, nearly 20 persons in Debshala village were injured by the wolf attack in the last three-four days. At least 10 people, who were injured, were admitted to the Bardhaman medical college or a private hospital of Durgapur, officials added.
Villagers initially mistook the animal for a fox and fatally attacked it. However, upon arrival, forest department officials identified it as a wolf. The village falls under the Panagarh area of forest department, who are patrolling the area.
